DeleteMattel's site is a trainwreck. Regarding Hot Wheels and Matchbox die cast: There is no catalogue for the full lineup. There is no general store where you can pick and order what you fancy. However there is a so called "Hot Wheels club", with a yearly membership fee. The official name is "Redline Club". There you can buy exclusive, sometimes very nice, but very overpriced, limited edition Hot Wheels. You need to be lucky to get those, before the stock runs out which is in most of the cases means matter of minutes. Beginning of this year Mattel halted deliveries outside of the United States without any warning for the members, for weeks - maybe it was even a month or two. There was no warning just an error message when you tried to put something to your virtual shopping basket. What you guess they refunded the foreigner members for that? "The membership fee is not refundable!" Of course the biggest market for them is the Undited States, but if they treat foreign customers like that, they will loose them quickly. But outside of collector's expectations: The prices are going up, the quality is going down, while the European and Chinese brands are getting better and better with very competitive prices. The parents of kids, the biggest customerbase for them are not faithful to the brands. I don't know how long the brandname will sell the products, but there is a good chance the history will repeat itself and the same will happen with toy cars as it happened with american automibiles and the imports. 8-(
ReplyDeleteACME (who take Greenlight castings and create collector versions for hobby stores) did a much better version of this car in 1/64 scale already, so the small scale diecast fans who are also Gurney fans like myself have already been catered to while much of the current Hot Wheels collector fanbase aren't even going to really know much about this car.
