  1. There's an episode of the Dorkamotive podcast that talks about how this method was used to clear trees to build a dam in the 1940's. Those people added a steel ball about 6' in diameter in the middle of the chain to keep the chain a few feet up on the tree trunks. The US Army also used bulldozers and chains to clear jungle in Vietnam.

    1. I've heard of it before, but this is the first example I've seen. All long as the trees have shallow roots, it's no big deal. Faster than using an excavator or dozer on one tree at a time!
