so long and thanks for the great music with David Lee Roth. Eruption, Hot For Teacher, Panama, Jump, Drop Dead Legs, And The Cradle Will Rock, etc.... After that? Nothing memorable.

the man from Amsterdam, with the give away truck, in October 1993. Another was made with only the stripes on the side, for Eddie, with more upgraded custom stuff.

The winner of the give away truck was a GM mechanic, Bob Cotter, in Lansing Mi. https://www.vhnd.com/2014/10/22/eddie-van-halen-van-hauler-trucks

Just adds to my threory that only young musicians create amazing music, after they hit 35 or so, they lose the gift for creating amazing music

  1. Rest in Peace Eddie. An icon of the 80's, you left us too soon.

  2. With Leonard Cohen as the glorious exception. He wrote poetry, but at age 33 decided to do music too, after which his songs just got better and better. Joni Mitchell got better with age too.

But you do have a good point. Stones and Clapton age well, but their best stuff came early on.

    1. What I said was that after age 35 they lose the gift for creating amazing music... perhaps I didn't phrase that to make my thought clear. No one seems to make music that is a commercial success, aka, good music that results in overwhelming appreciation from the masses, which peaks high on the charts. Cher had one hit per decade for 4 decades that was a number one. Joni Mitchell, has been heard of since 1975 to anyone but fans of her music. No hit song, no amazing creation.
The Stones peaked in the 70s. Clapton peaked in the 70s, though he did have a couple hits in the 80s. I see that as just a couple good ones he made on the way to never doing anything noteworthy again.
Some groups keep it together long enough to make a couple more hits after they peak, like AC DC, but I can only think of a single example of an amazing creation from a musician over 40, that's Tina Turner. Her best was in 1984, when she was 45. Joni Mitchell's best was when she was 33.
So my theory is that the best music is from people under 35, and then they forget how to create amazing music after that.
The Stones peaked in 68, and had a couple hits until 78. Then they gave up, in my opinion. Sure, it's amazing they can still peform, but they haven't created anything amazing since 68.
All the amazing stuff seems to happen when musicians are in their 20s, or teens.
So, though there might be another Tina Turner, the 99% of all musicians I can think of can't create enough to dazzle a drunk 8th grader after age 35.
What puzzles me, is that the older they get, the longer they've been making, playing, and learning music, but none of that seems to add to their ability as a creative genius.
More the opposite, the older they get, the less they can create a hit song, a cooler chord, or guitar solo, or drum riff.

  4. Joni Mitchell has had major health problems. Bob Dylan certainly didn't taper off.Time Out Of Place is one of his best albums.

    1. I read about her health problems, and it doesn't change the fact that her best was pre 1975, her health problems weren't bothering her for another 20 years.
Or do you see that different somehow? She was amazing until 75, nothing since is amazing. Key word, from the first thing I said, "AMAZING"
And Dylan? Hasn't done anything amazing since going electric.
Writing All Along the Watchtower was AMAZING
What did he do since that even compares?
I think those of you that are disagreeing, aren't looking at the word AMAZING or the words I used sequentially, CREATING AMAZING MUSIC, and you're nit picking about your favorite bands or musicians. None of you has cited a single example of a song, riff, solo, etc etc.
      SO, focus please.
Don't come to quibble, come here with examples

    2. I disagree slightly on your Joni comments. Her decline began in the 1980s. There are many different thoughts on her music nowadays. Hejira (1976) is considered her best album in many circles (although most would still say Blue, Hejira is gaining). Even Don Juans Reckless Daughter (1977) gets more respect now and it should. That was the album that caught the attention of Charles Mingus. I prefer the Mingus experimental sessions from 1978-79 (you can google on youtube) over the Mingus album that was released...The 80s-90s albums have some good moments but are inconsistent and not as amazing as 60-70s Joni.
