Bought by a circus animal trainer in '36, abandoned in France in 38, and flipped by so many investment people it's crazy, and still has yet to find a single Bugatti fanatic with a fortune to blow on a restoration. How did the Mullin museum never acquire it?
Reserve not met at $175k, but from the seller's comments, I think a deal was made. When I first saw this listed on BAT, I guessed that it will probably cost about a million to restore it, but I could be wrong.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine the reactions if someone made a rat rod out of this? Someone could get the mechanicals fixed, put in a supercharged Bugatti engine, and leave the body alone. It would never happen, but it's fun to think about it.
