so... you can easily create an “adversarial noise” pattern that will make a license plate difficult for AI to recognize while still appearing normal to people.

and Florida instantly made it illegal to prevent Flock cameras from reading your license plate

Florida law explicitly prohibits covering, obscuring, or interfering with the legibility, visibility, or detectability of a license plate number or validation sticker, as well as interfering with the ability to record the plate details via electronic recording devices or cameras

What if you have your bumper made of license plates?

Or get a wrap for your whole car, that looks like a 1000 license plates?

Adversarial AI Patterns: An emerging concept involves 3D-printing license plate frames embedded with adversarial machine learning patterns (such as open-source projects like Scarecrow). These patterns are designed to trick the YOLO or AI object detection models into failing to recognize the object as a license plate at all.

the Maryland Vehicle Authority is cracking down on out-of-state vehicle registration, primarily targeting tens of thousands of vehicles previously registered in Maryland then switched to Virginia after losing their license in Maryland... because these drivers don't pay camera citations!

The MVA said the data showed that 28,003 vehicles previously registered in Maryland were switched to Virginia. More than 50% of those vehicles would not be eligible to register in Maryland because of indicators on their records, and nearly all were out of compliance with Virginia safety inspections.

Baltimore City officials said drivers with Virginia tags often do not pay traffic citations. About 63% of camera citations issued to vehicles with Virginia tags remain outstanding from 2025. More than 80% of camera citations issued to vehicles with Virginia tags in 2024 also remain unpaid.

the license plate shows the car's coefficient of drag

This belongs to former Art Center head of Transportation Design Stewart Reed, often seen at the Center's annual car show. I met his daughter in Palm Springs at the 2013 Desert Concours while looking at a 1913 Buick. She mentioned she was going to make a website about cars. I wonder if she ever did?
