The first Yamaha, built in 1955

  1. Great looking bike.Basically an exact copy of the 1930's DKW RT125 as was the BSA Bantam, the Harley Hummer, Mz 125 and a few others, This was before the Japanese makers started designing their own bikes but instead just copied European makes. I mean exact copies! Little did we know at the time what lay ahead! Great site. Thanks for keeping us all informed and entertained.

  2. The BSA was the fun one, in the sense that they mirrored the design, so the gear pedal would be on the right hand side, as per English tradition. The early East German MZ was a DKW copy too, as were innumerable further developed ones built in other East Bloc countries - most of those in Russia.
