the No Kill Car Shelter in Port Richmond, a neighborhood on the river in Philadelphia, has been buying clunkers, wrecks, beaters, and heaps from around the tri-state area — and not so much repairing them as transforming them into rat rods
I'm not saying it's good or bad, it's simply worth taking a look at

damn, the 15 was shut down on Friday in both directions in what started as an incident involving a not really suicidal guy who needed a LOT of attention on an overpass sign near Lake Mead Boulevard. THEN Swat and crisis negotiators responded to the scene.
The closure for I-15 southbound is at the Cheyenne exit and the closure for I-15 northbound is at the Washington exit.
It turns out the cops haven't learned from others in the news... JUST drive some semi trailers under the jumper, and bingo, no more deadly distance to jump from. Push him off the ledge, let him fall on the semi trailers roofs where cops and EMTs are there to fix a sprained wrist or twisted ankle, and then off to Bellevue to get him some psychology exams and figure out what's driving the guy bonkers.
All told, this method takes 30 minutes, tops, to get the jumper off the overpass sign, and into handcuffs, and lets traffic get back to being busy
Here's one I just learned about the Penske Donohue rapid fueling rig (I've already posted about the supercooled fuel) they started with a fuel drum 10 feet off the ground to test the race track's response to the new gadget during quals, THEN raised it to 20 feet for the race, for FASTER fuel loading!
Above the short tower, and by the looks of the pivot points, might even be articulated for height adjustment! Wouldn't that be amazing to learn they could lower it like with a crank that scissor jacked it from low to high, install fuel into the drum, and dry ice, then jack it up to height for the improved gravity drain?
new to me Smokey Yunick alteration to his famous Chevelle, that I just learned of.
I just heard that Smokey added a couple inches to the bottom of the front bumper, effectively making it an air dam!
I think I posted this before, Smokey added a tiny airfoil to the back of the roof

Ever heard of how Penske and Donohue got the unfair advantage with the Javelin?
They took Porsche 917 brakes (Girling manufactured) to the AMC people, had AMC part numbers made for the Porsche brake parts, then had those Porsche 917 brakes sold over the counter to meet the SCCA regulations

Did you ever hear how Dan Gurney won the 1962 Daytona Continental Sport Car race? (a race I've never heard of) Thank you Mike!
Dan Gurney had built up a good lead when he had serious engine difficulties, the crankshaft had failed.
Because of his position on the track, he was able to coast towards the finish line, but he knew that the car was done, and might only have a single lap left in it.
Unfortunately for him, the three hour duration had not yet occurred, so he stopped the car short of the finish line and had to wait for the three hour duration to be reached. When the time had expired, he used the starter motor to move the car across the finish line and win.
