A crated Spitfire went to Sydney Technical College as an instructional airframe in 1949, but went unused, and sat outside where it weathered damage and vandalism (thank you VolksRob!)

This aircraft was the last Spitfire acquired by the Royal Australian Air Force. It was built by Supermarine in England in 1944, test-flown and then shipped to Australia. The Air Force took delivery of the aircraft in April 1945, but with World War II drawing to a close it was not required on active service and was set aside in 1949

1961–1972: The airframe passed through private hands in Sydney, including A.J.R. "Titus" Oates and later warbird collector Sid Marshall at Bankstown.

1972–1982: It was loaned to the Camden Museum of Aviation at The Oaks near Sydney, where it was made taxiable

1982: Col Pay acquired the Spitfire and moved it to his base in Scone, NSW.

1985: Following an intensive three-year rebuild of its weather-worn fuselage and structure, Pay successfully flew the restored fighter on December 29, 1985,

just sitting there on a side street looking like the owner gave up on it... it looks like it's never had a rich owner, no one even put on some Cragars, and it's beginning to show the decades of neglect

Why this neighborhood insists on such hideous rims, on so MANY cool old cars, I do not know

it was sitting there 2 months ago with a flat front tire

I almost bought a Mustang like this, but fastback, in 1988, when I was in high school. The only problem that the seller, the mom of a co-worker knew of, was a busted timing chain. 500 bucks.

I STILL regret that my asshole step dad didn't step up, back my chance at that Mustang, as I had the money. I didn't have the tools, or know how, to do an engine rebuild... but hell, it was a 289, that's not a jigsaw puzzle.

Anyway, that was the one chance I recall nearly having at a fixer upper, cheap, and cool

this 74 Corvette was hit while parked in front of this repair shop so, it went on the lift to fix, but life and business got in the way, and there it sat since 76 with only 1k miles on it.

The roof has been leaking and falling-in for over a decade

The car is rough from being neglected, but still wears it's original tires, hoses, filters, etc.

Shelves were erected around it, literally no way to get it out of there easily. It would legitimately take you a week to get the car out of there.

Air India hit with 13-year parking bill after rediscovering lost Boeing 737, it will now serve as a non-flying training platform for aviation maintenance technicians.

a long-lost Boeing 737-200 that had been quietly sitting in a remote corner of India’s Kolkata Airport for more than a decade — a jet that somehow slipped entirely out of the memory of anyone at the airline.

Over the years, staff turnover and record-keeping gaps meant the jet gradually slipped out of the airline’s institutional record-keeping.

The confusion appears to have stemmed from administrative lapses dating back to mergers involving Indian Airlines and Air India, as well as the aircraft’s former use as a freighter for India Post.

The aircraft was taken out of service and parked on a remote pad at Kolkata Airport in 2012.

It is the 14th abandoned aircraft cleared from Kolkata Airport in the past five years.
