During Comic Con, which is far more Hollywood and entertainment than you might know unless you get to Hall H every day, I learned that Amazon has picked up The Electric State, by Simon Stalenhag, to make a mini series from

you can get an idea from the images, and the description of the book,

His alternative-universe graphic novel “The Electric State” follows a young woman and a robot traveling west to California. But in Stålenhag’s dystopian world set in 1997, the region is called Pacifica, and the country has been ravaged by drone war.

Known for narrative art that mixes realistic landscapes with 20th century nostalgia and science fiction elements, Stålenhag has amassed a cult following and critical acclaim for his inventive and captivating work. He even crowdfunded his book projects through Kickstarter campaigns, which brought his digitally-distributed artwork into the analog world.

“The Electric State” was released in late 2018 through Skybound Books — the imprint formed by “Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman's Skybound Entertainment — and Simon and Schuster's Atria Books.

Yet interest around Stålenhag’s works has been growing; the Russo brothers — the sibling director duo who recently made “Avengers: Infinity War” — landed the film rights for the book in late 2017. In addition to “The Electric State” deal, Amazon has ordered a first season of “Tales From the Loop,” another graphic project based on Stålenhag's earlier sci-fi art.

or, you can take the next video, and turn up the speed to X2

and it's examples like this, and that of Armand Baltazar, that cause me to try and motivate artists to make out a spec book, heavy on the art, simple on the story, and pitch it to both book companies and tv networks, as they are both desperate for new material to score a win with... after all, Hell Boy and The Walking Dead were comic books, Iron Man, The Avengers, the Nolan Batman movies with Christian Bale were graphic novels, as was Alita, Watchmen, Sin City, Tank Girl, Blade, X Men and Wolverine.

David Lozeau continues to surprise and amaze me... I had no idea he had a booth at Comic Con! Like last year finding him at SEMA, it's a great surprise to find him unexpectedly at a convention! (And he survived the Gilroy Garlic Festival massacre!)

Devil's DeVille

Not only did he blow my mind with this caddy... and Death, riding a black horse (metaphorically) but he has a new series of “Sea Hags and Scallywags”

Fishin Mission

but you probably haven't had the mind blowing up close look at his hand made and - relative to each painting - apropos frame that adds the COOLEST details. Seriously - I've looked at a LOT of art in my 40 some years of appreciating art and artists, and NO ONE ELSE has ever made a frame that ADDS more cool stuff to look at that COMPLIMENTS the painting!

Can I afford one? Nope. Not gonna happen, probably not ever. But I can share the photos. So, if you love art, artists, wood working, and San Diego locals - how's your mind not wiped out by David Lopez's framed art?

Shark bites from a lifeguard shack! Lol,... I love it! It makes my AWESOME list!

Death Valley - which he created during SEMA 2018  https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2018/11/i-was-really-surprised-to-find-david.html

US Army green straps, and below, very reminiscent of a Shinto Shrine and Japanese ornamental piece on top center

hood strap leather above, Jeep hood latch downs and brass ID plate below

But this one? Aircraft canvas over a light wood structure? See what I mean about the incredible frames? They've blow my mind since 2012!

his humorous take on the "day of the dead" cute skeleton guys is a hoot... and he hasn't stopped creating yet, and I think I met him in 2012.

Band on the Run, get it?

how do you not love a guy that does a new take on Evel Knievel?

just a couple new ones from his Day of the Dead  collection https://www.davidlozeau.com/collections/day-of-the-dead

an example of that regardless of bikes, cars, trucks, or other common mechanical things, he paints them all perfectly, then adds the skeletons/ I was quite surprised to see a bike race painting!

It's quite a mental wrench to discover he was at the Gilroy Festival... when you think you're sure that no one you know was there, hey, the news sucks - but at least you know none of your friends and acquaintances were there, right? You know? But to suddenly read https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10219067779743527&set=a.1513095745471&type=3&theater and find out you know people that were there? Woof. That's a sudden panic stop of the brain, damn! I just read the news about the animation studio in Japan getting hit, and the dozens injured and dead, including the Akira artist... it's been a fucked day for poking my head out and seeing the news. Anyone else regret getting out of bed?

the art of Gary Montalbano, who, for the past 3 decades, has busily been animating for such companies like Marvel Entertainment, Warner Brothers, ILM, and Universal - and making cool art on the side

if your thought when looking at the above was - "wow, I bet he teaches at the Art Center College of Pasadena!" well, I said asked something about if he'd went to art schools for in depth education, methods, techniques etc, and if so which ones...

He replied that he'd went to Art Center for one term, but couldn't afford to continue - and now he has been asked to teach there twice!! Most recently 3 years ago.

Presently he is working  on a feature animation project at Universal / DreamWorks.

if looking through these samples has you thinking, "whoa... this is amazing, I think that he'd be incredible animating Batman, Xmen, Spawn, etc" then seriously, click on the links below, especially the IMDB link. You'll be amazed at all the series he's worked on!

His facebook https://www.facebook.com/gary.montalbano.7 and Instagram, https://www.instagram.com/garymontalbanoart/ are a bit easier to slide through and see his art, but for the much larger portfolio, and where you CAN buy prints, go to his  http://garymontalbano.com/
