The new version, which is expected to appear on NBC’s primetime schedule midseason, follows James Rockford after he is released from prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Returning to Los Angeles, Rockford resumes life as a private investigator, using his instincts, charm and street smarts to solve cases while navigating pressure from both law enforcement and organized crime.

he sure as hell looks the part... David Boreanaz, as Jim Rockford photos released yesterday. The show has been given a release window of Jan 2027
the original aired for six seasons and won five Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and (for Garner) Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Remakes seldom work out for me. That guy will never be Jim Rockford. And what about Angel? Not a chance!
ReplyDeleteI can't recall a tv series that had a remake that surpassed the original. But I can't recall a tv show remake either. No one ever thought a tv series needed a remake until the last 10 years or so, when Hollywood quit taking chances on new unproven concepts. The old CBS< ABC, NBC don't even make sitcoms is what I heard. Gave up on the entire genre because of the success of NCIS, Law and Order, and Housewives.
DeleteI know that some songs were better, so much better, when they were remade/covered by another band or singer. Blinded by the Light, Mannfred Mann made a great song out of Bruce Springsteens reject. Hendrix did awesome on Dylan's All along the Watchtower. Janis rocked that song Aretha's sister dropped the ball on, Piece of My Heart
But I can't think of any tv series that have been remade. Or movies.
Oh yeah, Hawaii 5-0, the remake wasn't that good. But I didn't like the original either
I looked online for some shows that were remade... Battlestar Galactica was much better the 2nd time
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls069242967/ has 50 shows... one stood out to me as better than the original, about 40 I didn't even know had been remade because the reboot flopped.
I heard recently that there will be a reboot of Baywatch. I think I heard about it on Japanese Nostalgic Cars, because they were talking about the different kind of trucks that were used in the original series.
DeleteI saw that too... but that won't be on this blog unless there's something vehicular and cool
DeleteWife and I are binging on "Bones" (Amazon Prime video) and we are enjoying watching Boreanaz .. He did a great job with his part as am FBI guy.. I saw all the original Rockford Files episodes.. (Yes, I am ancient) and I think Boreanaz could pull off the part.. It will be entertaining .
ReplyDeleteI watched Bones, the whole series, and liked it! I started rewatching it between other movies.... it holds up as good entertainment. Can't believe they got Billy Gibbons to be the artists dad! https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2018/09/if-you-havent-seen-tv-series-bones.html That tells me that I watched it in 2018... and 8 years later, here I am going back for a 2nd round
DeleteSo, what will the new Jim Rockford be driving? Please let it be some car that is almost cool but just barely misses the mark and has to be a able to do the famous "Rockford Turn". I can't think of any current vehicle that checks those boxes and would fit a struggling ex-con private investigator. This started off as a rhetorical question but now I'm actually curious.
