I'm trying to make a joke about the girls from Beaver Camp taking a trip to Bald Mountain, but I can't quite make it work. Maybe if there was a woody in the picture?
The old camp pictures are really cool. There must have been thousands of these camps across the country back in the day.
DAMN! I did not see that on the horizon! Whoa! Yup, seriously easy money, only working summers, and I bet if teachers were part of it, that would give them year round income. But owning the property, having fun with teaching kids a bit, then letting them run around in the woods, play in the lake, liability insurance probably hadn't been invented yet... lots of bonfires and smores... what's not to enjoy? I'm guessing that now, day one of camp is sexual harrassment training, followed by class after class of disclaimers, insurance company requirements, state and federal guideline indoctrination, etc. But 100 years ago? Lets learn camp songs, how to make bridges, how to swim the back stroke, breast stroke, and float, archery, maybe some campfire breakfast cooking... just easy going kids stuff!
glad you're liking the camp photos... that 60s retro one, that had been a speakeasy, and Latvian priest retirement home? WHOA! I'm just having a ball on the research for more woodies that worked as camp to train station shuttles. From the variety of the stuff I've been posting, obviously, there is a lot of other stuff that popped up along the way, but, it's a relaxing bloggy day to just look around for camp station wagons, woodies, etc.
