ummm, something a bit different, racing Skodas

  1. The UK used to have a dirt road racing series for Skodas only, as they were very cheap and had the engine in the proper place for this type of competition. Sort of a poor man's NSU TT or 911.

  2. I'd bet that would be very entertaining racing! Here in Aus. we have Hyundai Excel running as a class. Must be stock standard specs. It makes for very cheap(comparitively) racing which is also hotly contested due to most vehicles being very close in performance. Not to mention a doorway for ones wanting to make their way into motor racing.

    1. I'm sure you Antipodeans have inherited the Brits' penchant for racing just about anything. Btw, they did the same thing with MZ's, when those were the cheapest 250s on the market. Worked well for a long time, until some of the participants got too serious about it (40 bhp).

    2. I think racing is too universal. I've posted racing cars, bikes, gravity carts, tractors, Asian 2 wheel tractors, canoes, boats, hydroplanes, airplanes, trains, atvs, semis, off road big trucks (still have no idea why they race them in the Dakar), swamp buggies, chain races, skid plate races, valve cover races, pine derby races, soapbox derby races, Motocross, Moto GP, Isle of Man, LeMans, F1, VW Bug racing, rally racing, beach racing, hill climbing, etc. There doesn't seem to be any country or place that does anything less than everything possible that moves with an engine and wheels. Well, maybe Iceland. They seem to be offroad a lot more, and F1 a lot less.

  3. Racing is universal, and even crosses species boundaries: I've had horses race me on my (admittedly old & slow) motorcycle. That even makes for some nice interspecies interaction, as I always stop at the end of the enclosure to feed my fellow racer some fresh grass.

  4. Okay, let me add something - at least I considering - interesting and cool to this post: The racing 130 LR was one of the two east-block car that Matchbox have ever modelled. That was in 1986, four years after Lesney went to bankrupcy and the brand sold to a chinese businessman from Hong Kong and "Matchbox International LTD" established. Here you can have a look: https://matchboxmemories.blogspot.com/2014/05/matchbox-mb-44-skoda-130-lr.html
