have you seen the the Indian Army Dare Devil precision drill team in the Republic Day Parade? It's cool to see what unlimited training hours can result in (skip the 1st 20 seconds)

  1. It's an impressive display, but I wonder if there is any practical use for these skills?

I think this is from the same Republic Day parade - Indian military camels with mortars attached to their humps. No wheels here, but I thought it was unusual.

    1. yes, same parade. Did you notice the 2nd photo down that article, the two guys on either side of the hump, with a red cross banner of white around them? Must be easier than motorcycles needing fuel, to feed and water camels. Bizzare.
Is there any practical use? Nope. Just the same as the Navy Blue Angels, the Air Force Thunderbirds, and the ridiculous precision of the military at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the English guards in their bear fur hats... it's all wasting military members and resources on glam showmanship. Not practical, or useful in any military use, or offensive or defensive military war tactics or strategy... and this is from my 10 years experience in the Navy.
It's putting on a show, and not serving time in the trenches, tanks, airplanes, ships, or helicopters where they might do something useful in combat, or combat training. Think Ukraine or Russia is wasting resources on this nonsense? Nope.
All this nonsense is to keep the ballooned budget that they needed during their last war, and wasting taxpayers dollars on nonsense instead of education, filling potholes, or reducing taxes.
It's the bitch I have about the military flyovers of football games... 40k per aircraft just in fuel.

  2. I don't have a problem with the flyovers, because from what I've heard, it's part of the pilots' scheduled training hours, so they would be flying somewhere else, anyway. And there is the aspect of arriving at the stadium at a specified time, like arriving at a military target on schedule.

The other examples like the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds seem like recruitment tools more than anything. Trump wanted to have a military parade in DC like the Russians, Chinese and North Koreans do. It was good that someone talked him out of that. It would have been a big waste of resources and probably would have ruined the streets along the route.
