they used to make books for ordinary drivers, back when anyone using a car would have to know how to hand crank it, after priming the spark plugs, etc... here's one book I haven't heard of until now

 

a mechanician was an engineer or a scientist working in the field of mechanics, I learned the word when I first posted it in 2011, and haven't seen the word since.
