You will recall all the Milt Caniff posts I did a couple of years ago unless you just recently started following along https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search?q=caniff
but to me, it seems rare to find an artist of Caniff's caliber doing advertising work for cereal companies. They may have simply paid the comic strip syndicate for this one image. Damned if I know

Caniff died of cancer on April 3, 1988 and with his death also came from his last work. The last daily strip made by his assistant Richard Rockwell ended with the phrase "All Honor to his Art and Name" and the last Sunday page was a tribute (a campaign grave with a cross pen and a helmet crowned) by Bill Mauldin and signed by a plethora of authors who pay tribute to one of the most influential personalities of comic art of all time.
There is a great series of books on the Terry and the Pirates, rather pricey, but well worth it for the enthusiast. https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Terry-Pirates-Vol-1934-1936/dp/1600101003/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1IO2A6RGRBDBX&keywords=terry+and+the+pirates+vol+1&qid=1572277103&sprefix=terry+and+the+%2Caps%2C235&sr=8-1
ReplyDeleteI bought the first one, to try it out before sinking a fortune into the whole series. I was impressed with the artistry, but never got hooked on the story.
