The goal of advertising is to 1-get your attention, and 2-get you to read the message. An ad like this looks like a cartoon to grab you as everyone likes cartoons, then you out of habit read the copy as you would normally read the caption in a cartoon.
Right, I get those two goals were accomplished... but I am not asking as to why cartoons are used, but rather, could this illustration actually be effective?
Have you ever seen Japanese advertising? Full of "cutesy" characters! Even the street signs have cartoony figures on them!
ReplyDeleteyup, been to Sasebo, Yokosuka, and Tokyo. But, this isn't Japanese. It looks like it's an illustration from a Little Golden Book.
