in upcoming cool car movie news, Anthony Hopkins is starring in a movie about Maserati
Maserati: The Brothers tells the story of siblings driven by their love of cars to create an automotive company from scratch in 1914
As many as 60 Maseratis of 1920s and 1930s designs were made for the film, a vast investment within a budget thought to be well over £90m
Hopkins, who has a passion for classic cars, plays the key role of an Italian financier who bankrolls the Maserati brothers.
Set in early 20th-century Italy, it focuses on the eldest brother Carlo, the ambitious Alfieri and their siblings Bindo, Ettore and Ernesto, as they pursue the idea of building innovative cars that combine art and technology.
Tensions escalated with financial struggles, the risks of racing and a forbidden love affair. Carlo strived to unite the family around the shared goal of founding Maserati but died of tuberculosis before he could see his dream come true. Alfieri dreamed of racing and winning prestigious competitions but he died in 1932 from complications arising from injuries sustained years earlier in a crash.
The film is produced by Andrea Iervolino, who has produced two other well-received motoring films: Moresco’s Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend, and Micheal Mann’s Ferrari starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz. He is also planning one on Bugatti.

interesting Maserati was converted into a fire truck for F1 race track
The conversion of these Maserati Quattroportes was the idea of CEA, an Italian fire extinguisher manufacturer, who hired Italian coachbuilder Grazia to build it. Grazia didn't modify the chassis but instead chopped the roof off from the B-pillar back and turned it into a two-door pickup, similar to an Australian ute.
All five of the Maserati firetruck conversions were sold following their service in F1 and have exchanged hands several times since then.

the Maserati Quattroporte depreciates an average of 64.5%, or about $90,000 off the average list price of the car, over five years.
The top ten of the poor automotive investment list includes two other Maseratis, the Ghibli and Levante, three BMWs, the Jaguar XF, Infiniti QX80, Audi A7, and Cadillac Escalade ESV.
the worst news for any particular group of owners is for Corvette owners.
They will be very sorry to find out that, while America's sports car actually hasn't depreciated much in the past five years (just 27.5%), that means the average Corvette did not increase in value. Now, you know, if yours is parked in a garage right now and only removed on Sundays to be cleaned with cotton swabs, you might as well go drive it. Enjoy it, it's not a good investment, it's a car.

the Maserati that was in the Baillon collection is getting restored at last
I photographed it a the 2016 LaJolla Concours: http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2016/04/maserati-gran-sport-body-by-frua.html
and last month it went to a Vancouver restorer to be taken apart, down to the frame, and restored
It was sold at Retromobile 2014, and the owner seems to say that it's paint condition has been rapidly degrading since arriving in San Diego8 or 9 years ago.
