back when the legends were showing up with a SET of cars (I don't know if it was for racing in different classes, or in case one broke)

  1. Would have been for team driver or different class. About the only thing that broke were engines or transmissions and few teams in those days carried spare engines on ramp trucks or open trailers. Enclosed trailers for door slammers were pretty rare at that time.

    1. well, this example is Dick Landy, that's his Dart, and Super Bee, he owned them, and a Challenger, and in the background is is hauler that stores the spare engine. He wasn't a team driver, so, like I was guessing, it might be for different classes.
I don't see what enclosed trailer caused you to bring them up, in this image are two flat bed trucks.

  2. The big enclosed trailers were mostly used by the top fuel/funny car guys as they did carry spare engines and stayed on the road a lot more. We flat towed a Challenger C/EA to a number of races and that was pretty much the case. We also had help from Dave Koffel who ran the MOPAR Direct Connection program. They furnished a number of parts, oil etc but no cash. I will have to tell you about that engine later.
