I suppose that glass would be expensive to bend into the various exotic shapes these days. I don't mind the plastic so much, and cleaning it is not so hard, but it's nearly impossible to find the sealer separate from kits. Meguiar's PlastX does a really nice job of polishing, but they oxidize quickly again. I got some spray acrylic that works not too badly, but not perfectly, as it's hard to spray just the right amount. I think the way products are marketed for this is a bit of a racket, and if someone would mass market little bottles of the correct acrylic sealer as a separate item, I think people would by them even if (as is likely) the price were many times what it costs to make.
ReplyDeleteglass is simply shaped by being pressed when hot... it's dirt cheap, that's why drinking glasses are dirt cheap. It's probably no longer federally allowed to be used as headlight covers, due to the high likelihood of being shattered in collisions.
DeleteI'm new to even being concerned about headlight cover cleaning, but, it's certainly in my immediate future.
Oh for pete's sake, so there isn't even a good sealant?
