Waiting for chips? That’s the official story, but I’m not convinced. Reasonably equipped RAM 1500 quadcabs are retailing in the 55/60 thousand dollar range, and the TRX is at about 80,000. One online source reports Ford F150 sales are off 31% between 2021 Q1 and 2022 Q1, and Ram sales are off 15 % for the same period. Keep in mind the 2022 stat is from when fuel prices were still somewhat manageable. Do we need Milton Friedman to help us understand what’s going on? Let’s see, a TRX has a 33 gallon tank, meaning from empty to full will relieve it’s owner of about 180 one dollar Federal Reserve notes. And at about 10/11 MPG as reported by various owners...well, the picture becomes clearer. A RAM 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi officially offers 15/22 MPG, but we all know those official numbers are worthless. Long story short, no one is buying these trucks.
stella was playing hard ball with suppliers on pricing to the point suppliers suppliers told them to pound sand. their is a chip shortage and stella moved themselves to the bottom of the list for recieving product. also no one is buying trx with $5 gas.
One of my HS classmates works at one of the Chrysler engine plants, I think making 4-cylinders. They are laid off for two weeks, which then is followed by their summer shut-down. It's blamed on parts shortages.
I don't know if people who can afford an $80k Ram TRX are too worried about gas prices. I still see people out driving their Shelby Mustangs and Hemi Dodges and full-size Tahoes and the like. I, on the other hand, am considering switching my 18 mpg SUV for my son's Malibu, which does better on gas.
I call bullshit on this. Biteme says this is the best economy every. I trust him. Me and 80.999,999 and 'murican voters got his back.
