what's the point of removing all traces of what state the plate is from? When, obviously its most likely going to be the state you're standing in (and the color of the month decal gives away that it's California)
Jesse, in the Tampa Bay area we are overcrowded with snowbirds and tourists. My wife loves calling out the "foreigners". I've learned that many states have distinctive fonts. California is one, Virginia is another. Most of the time the plates have frames around them that cover up the state. Indentifying license tags- Wow, are we exciting
the font? Dang, I didn't think of that! Living in San Diego for 27 years has made me so used to the California plate, month and year tags, I instantly recognize them.... because I see them every day.
yes, there is a law, or at least a "california vehicle code" that says it's a misdemeanor to do anything to alter a license plate... because the base coat of paint it reflective, and anything done to a plate changes that. But no one cares around here, because the cops don't write tickets for misdemeanors anymore
