Tom Malloy's collection is one of the most impressive private collections of Indycars in the world. I'm guessing few people have ever heard of it or been invited to one of his open house events.... Thanks Warren S! ( for telling me about it, no, I didn't get an invite)
his dad built and operated Carrell Speedway in Gardena, California, owned open-wheel race cars, and sponsored several different drivers including Jimmy Reece in the 1953, 54, and 55 Indy 500.
Yep! I’m one of um that never heard of this collection. It warms the cockles of my heart. Three noteworthy cars in my mind. The number 35 Miller Ford, another Miller Ford next to it that was unsuccessfully adapted to accommodate the very first Novi (known as the Winfield V8 then) in 1941 and the first AJ Watson rear engine design for Roger Ward in 1964. Wonderful stuff. (You can only get a look at these cars by opening the link provided.)
you can get a look at them on my blog, as I have went to events and photographed them. Just saying, you hurt my feelings by saying "can only get a look" as I have always shared my photos. That's what I do. Go to events, photograph the cool cars, and then share them. http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2014/06/some-great-old-indy-racers-from-40s-and.html There are 2 #35s in the Malloy collection, the all red Don Lee Special http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2011/06/don-lee-special.html and the red and white Miller special with the V8 design down the side. I've photographed them both, and posted them. Shucks. I thought you'd dig what I've done to prevent such "you can only" statements. Allright, I'm guilt tripping you, but really, I've been lucky to get my eyeballs on these cars because I live in So Cal, and go to events where these collectors show their cars off, or loan them out for shows, events, museums, and take them out racing
