I guy I worked with at my last job had one of those Nissan Leafs. I don't think the range was very good. He drove about 30 miles to work, then had to plug it into an extension cord all day before driving home. I think he said that if he worked half a day, he wasn't sure he'd have enough charge to get home. Not a very good purchase if you ask me.
I've been joking with my family that I'm waiting for an electric pickup to come out so I can mount a generator in the bed and then have unlimited mileage! Someone else had this excellent idea I see. LOL
and if you had a DC generator with a friction wheel being spun by contact with the trailer wheel, or the road going under it, wouldn't that recapture some of the power used to move the car along?
