Last Friday a fuel tanker crashed and burned on an LA freeway, the traffic was stopped for hours, but some relief was on hand when a gourmet food van pulled off the freeway, and opened for business, at half price

a fiery and fatal tanker truck crash shut down the 105 Freeway in Hawthorne, CA around 5 am last Friday, when a Range Rover and tanker truck collided, the tanker burst into flames and sent a fireball shooting across the freeway. Commuters were at a standstill for around 3 hours while the road was closed.

No fear though, Isabella Lario with AC Catering food truck since 1986, came to the rescue! Larios normally serves construction crews working on the airport tunnel, but with no options, she made the best of a bad traffic jam.

Lario, who was operating the food truck, got up to make herself some coffee while waiting in standstill traffic, other drivers thought she was open for business, and she and her cook decided to go with it. The truck opened up for business, and they served food at half price for all the hungry and stranded people.

“We saw other people walking down with sandwiches and we were like, ‘Where are we going? Let's go get it,’” said driver Michael Ullrich. “So we just walked up here, and there's a lot of great people and we’re all hanging out and talking and trying to get through it.”

By 8 a.m., the eastbound lanes of the 105 Freeway had been reopened, and CHP had cleared much of the area around the crash site,

  1. It would seem at first glance they were profiting from the misfortune of others, but I think considering the hour, they were providing a much needed and appreciated service to fellow travelers. Good on them.
