this antique outboard engine, nicknamed "Kaiser Bill" the grandfather of the guy posting it on Antique Outboard motor Club. It has been stored away for 50+ years.
A hand written note by his grandfather says: "Uncle Cal bought Kaiser Bill in 1911 from Ferro Motor Co in Chicago for $25 plus freight.
Ferro Motor Co bought it to use as a pattern to make outboard motors.
Kaiser Bill was made in Germany to be used for salt water, that is why the shaft, etc is made of bronze.
I used it a lot when I was a kid. You can make it run forward by having the magneto lever set in V on the flywheel. Set the lever on R - crank it opposite and it runs in reverse. It is a 2 cycle and takes 2/3 pint of oil to a gallon of gas. The propeller is 11" across. It is a 5 horse power.

It is a Tip Top brand outboard made in Frankfurt. I kinda like the idea of the knob on the flywheel instead of a rope pull.
