22 dead as a result of the ( Morandi ) main highway bridge 300 feet over Genoa Italy, collapsing during a sudden, violent storm, the day before a major holiday. Buildings and cars crushed below as the 600 foot center span fell apart
This news report says poor design and a use by date that had expired. Still it was a toll road so the owners need to get the most profit they can although this glitch may hurt the bottom line.http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-08-15/what-caused-genoas-bridge-to-collapse/10121848
oh shit, lowest bid contractor probably - mafia related profiteering possible, and with no regard for the innocent public lives at risk. And a toll road, well, I'd say this ought to get handled in court then. Pay the far for the safe use of a road, and then... 22 dead. Damn it.
Sounds like Matty Moroun and his Ambassador bridge. That cheap bastard used to sit there on Saturday mornings and count cars to see how much he was making.
The way things are going I can't help but worry this kind of thing is in our future here in the US.
