The California 500 Special could be optioned with the 290ci, 225hp up to the 390ci, 315hp, but not the 340hp version in the Rebel Machine

A four-speed manual was standard but the 3 speed 'Shift Command' automatic was also optional.

A Limited Edition model also came with several options that included "Trendsetter Sidewinder" sidepipes and brass plaques on the hood blisters.
