the flying wing r and d was a LOT of faceplants.... but it was a noble effort to get a working flying wing that we know eventually succeeded
lots and lots of faceplants, probably from under-engineered nose gear.
see hundreds of photos of the developement from frame to engines to flying: https://www.flickr.com/photos/sdasmarchives/albums/72157719269344046

because I love those really old helicopters, sci fi and fantasy air battle scenes, and I wanted to let you know of a website I just came across that only features pulp magazine cover art
https://pulpcovers.com/ there's 23 pages just of this artists other work.
If you think the flying submarine is goofy, well, this artist was making a lot goofier stuff to get kids to buy these magazines, like vampires, combat skeletons, silver sinned gremlins, very ridiculous stuff that was a lot like Flash Gordon, or Edgar Rice Burroughs creations, and Red Skull, Capt America's adversary
I just found the link to the earlier post about a pulp magazine cover artist https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2021/05/edgar-franklin-wittmack-1894-1956.html

Historic Northrup Flying Wing, N9M, crashed into the Norco prison yard
There were no indications that prisoners or anyone on the ground was injured. Only a pilot was on board the Northrop N9M aircraft crashed just after noon at the California Rehabilitation Center on Fifth Street in Norco.
The aircraft was identified as the 1944 one of a kind remaining - Flying Wing, owned by the Planes of Fame Air Museum in nearby Chino.
