Wow, power to weight (and traction) means more on the strip than anything else, as proven by a 69 COPO 427 Chevelle racing a ‘71 Duster 340 at the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race 2025, and only winning by one 1/10th of a second... 12.0 to 12.1 for the Duster.

very similar top end speeds too... 114 and 112.

That 340 is a damn good motor.

I want to emphasis.... a STOCK 340 Duster damn near tied a COPO 427 Chevy. Seriously, why waste your money on a COPO 427 when it's not any better than a 340 Duster that likely cost 1/3rd as much, and has parts that you could replace from a junkyard. You are not ever going to get COPO 427 parts in a junkyard

A 440 six pack road runner at the same race pulled a 12.54 at 112. So... damn, that 340 Duster was perfectly set up and 4/10ths faster than a 440 A12 Road Runner

Unexpectedly, HBO Max cancelled season 2 of the J.J. Abrams muscle car era murder mystery, Duster... and for some reason, Hagerty waited until 2 days later to give it great free publicity, a month ago, it might have helped that show get the viewers needed to stay alive for a 2nd season

Here's the summary by Hagerty, that could have saved the show by attracting more viewers with such high praise

Duster pays playful tribute to ‘70s movies from Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid to Blaxploitation, and its stacked main cast frequently sport some of the coolest leather jackets you’ve ever seen. But its diverse collection of machines makes it a must-see for classic-car enthusiasts. Duster is a gift to gearheads.

Set in 1972 Arizona/New Mexico, follows the first black woman in the FBI and a gutsy getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate. (new tv series on Max, with the name Duster, starring Josh Holloway and Keith David)

thank you Marc!

Leading up the cast of the series is Josh Holloway, who Abrams had in mind when co-writing the series. He stars as Jim, a getaway driver who is brought into an FBI mission. Rachel Hilson also has a lead role as Nina, a new FBI agent who enlists Jim in her effort to take down a crime boss. Keith David appears as Ezra, the crime boss whom the two pursue.

The series was given a straight to series green-light at HBO Max in April 2020, as part of J. J. Abrams' overall deal at WarnerMedia. The series was co-created and co-written by Abrams and LaToya Morgan. The first season has eight episodes, the first two written by the creators. Steph Green is also an executive producer, and she directed the first two episodes.

In March 2021, Josh Holloway was cast to star in the pilot, with filming beginning in October 2021 in Tucson. In February 2023, the series was officially given a series order, with Rachel Hilson announced as a co-lead. Corbin Bernsen was announced in a recurring role the following month.

Production for the full series began in April 2023 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the surrounding areas. In May, it was suspended due to the 2023 WGA strike. Before the strike, the pilot was shot in downtown Tucson, Arizona, and parts of Pima County from September through mid-November 2021
