Don Clarkson's unique solution for the power robbing supercharger was a 331up front, and a tiny Johnson oil-burner in back. 

Described in the Feb. '59 HRM only as a "war-surplus" four-banger, the two-stroke devoted all 60 of its horses to driving a trunk-mounted GMC 6-71 supercharger. 

 Another, unsaid benefit was relocating the supercharger's weight rearward, enhancing what little bite was available from skinny, recapped slicks

It went to Bonneville in from 52-55, and in '56 with an engine by Meeks, and in 57, went drag racing with an engine by Vern Tardel, and stayed with that owner until now.

you know how very few people have a copy of the first year of Hot Rod magazine, but, because it pretty thoroughly documented the earliest hot rodders, a lot of people would like one? I found a simple cheap way to get a copy... they made a book of them

I've never seen or heard of this before... but it's the complete set, including covers, advertising, etc 

I bought this at the LA Roadster Show swap meet a couple weeks ago. 

I figured a few of you might want to know, so you too can read the first dozen issues. I've only ever read the reprint of the 1st issue, and only found the late 1949 through to now, issues to get a collection of my own to blog from 

This book can be bought on ABE books, or Ebay, or Amazon for between 30 and 50 dollars

Sometime in the 1970s, Don was able to arrange the purchase of this 32 with condition that the large tree not be harmed when removing the car, in Littleton, Colorado.

What they did was cut the body and frame into two sections just before the “B” pillar then pulled front and back apart.

WHOA! This is terrific! I found another Hot Wheels designer's work (in addition to Larry and Brendon) when by surprise I come across a cool hot rod (spotted at Rømø!) has it's own Hot Wheels! Old Red Racing Team (Denmark chapter) !
