MotorTrend + is shutting down, it's tv shows have moved to Discovery+ and Max

MotorTrend+ will be shut down after content from the service is fully migrated to Discovery+ and Max at the end of March.

No mention of what's caused this, my guess? Motor Trend is in dire need of income, as magazines are fading out of the subscription zone

  1. Talking about magazines - I got an email from Car & Driver recently, saying that they will be changing from 10 issues per year to 6 "double" issues per year. The subscription is up to about $35 now, too. I just got the first double issue in the mail, and it does have a nicer appearance and larger pages, but I don't know how much longer I will keep the subscription. I'm about 6 months behind on reading them, so I probably wouldn't miss it very much.

    1. So many magazines are on the last leg of the journey to the grave.
I think Hagerty, nearly 12 years into this, roughly, has switched to 6 a year. Damn good magazine, but only available with a insurance policy through Hagerty, I think. I was with them before, and ever since, so I'd have to look all that up. It just happened, and I was real happy about it. Started out with a couple dozen pages, now it's more like 150. Lots more advertising, true, but feel a lot more like the Rodders Journal. Nothing tops the Rodders Journal for having a true coffee table book feel!
      I had 12 subscriptions a decade ago.
Now, maybe 3. I rarely read them, and Hot Rod is utterly useless now. 1 real article, at least one article from the 50s, and not a good one, not like that magazine they did that was just unpublished original Hot Rod coverage of cars and events... cripes, I can't recall the name of that one, and it was awesome. Continuing my bashing of a new Hot Rod, then they have 2 or 3 engine (read, Chevy engines) articles, a couple pages of useless editorial from truck people... NOT real hot rod traditionalists (the only people who should be allowed in Hot Rod Magazine)
Motor Trend Classic folded, twice, Automobile was killed off and some of the staffers went to who ever owns Hot Rod and Motor Trend. 2 of my favorite writers are simply freelancers now, and I can't find where they consistently are published, Elena Scherr, and Ezra Dyer.
Etc Etc. I'm at work, not time to long form this rant about magazines going out of business

    2. Elana Scherr and Ezra Dyer both have columns in Car & Driver and write articles for them. I like the writing from both of them, too. Elana had an interesting article a few months ago about Slugging, an impromptu carpooling system in the Washington DC area, where people just get in someone else's car at the bus stop and ride to work together.

Here's a page with links to all of her articles. They probably have a similar page for Ezra's articles.

    3. thanks Marc! Damn, if Elena is writing about Washington DC, did she move out of LA? She had a cool Opel GT, and a 71 Challenger, plus a dually truck, if I recall correctly
