The Yellowstone Trail was the first transcontinental automobile highway through the upper United States, established in 1912.
It was an Auto Trail that ran from the Atlantic Ocean in Plymouth, Massachusetts, through Montana to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, to the Pacific Ocean in Seattle, Washington.
This runs right thru where I now live in Wisconsin and there are road signs marking the route. When I first moved here from California I had no idea what it was.
According to the maps on the organization's website, the Yellowstone Trail went right through my town of Fremont, Ohio, which is between Toledo and Cleveland. I have lived there for 27 years and I have never seen or heard anything about the Yellowstone Trail until today. I might go to our local historical society and see if they have any information about it.

US Route 20 also goes through Fremont and there are some Historic US 20 signs in the area. Route 20 is claimed to be "America's Longest Highway", at 3365 miles, going from Massachusetts to Oregon.
The Lincoln Highway is about 50 miles South of me, and there are a lot of historical markers along that route.
my recent work on a facebook page about my hometown https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095524357751 has proven to me that local history, is not taught in school. I've put more on my blog, about the town I grew up in, and the town I was born and went to high school in, than all that was ever mentioned in either towns schools. (high school in L'Anse Mi, 4-8th grades in Sidnaw Mi)
