a 1911 Gräf & Stift tourer, which lay on the bottom of a lake for more than 40 years, resides in the Svedinos car museum in Sweden.

The car was salvaged off Biskopsudden in Stockholm in 1964 after being in the water for 43 years.

It has now been in Svedino's museum for longer than that. What caused it to be underwater for 4 decades was not mentioned online, nor was there any mention of who or why it was noticed eventually, nor what method was used to retrieve it.

The Gräf & Stift is not just a luxury car similar to the Rolls Royce, for the elite and wealthiest, but also historically significant for playing a critical part in WW1. 

A 1911 Gräf & Stift did not have a reverse gear, but it was what archduke Ferdinand was riding in when he was shot. When it had to turn around, men came out of the crowd to help push it. This left it vulnerable to Gavrilo Princip to run up to it with his pistol, and assassinate the Archduke.
