Located in North Hollywood California, Scott founded the Sandmaster Company in 1966 that produced buggies and a range of off-road parts and accessories.
McKenzie teamed with another racer, Don Arnett, to build a VW pan based fiberglass buggy with Corvair power for the Stardust 7-11 off-road race.
The success of the race buggy lead to the production version of the Claim Jumper in 1968. It was featured in Hot Rod magazine (1969) and Road Test Dune Buggy (1970).
