factory equipment on a 1957 Chrysler 300C included wheel chocks. I kid you not.

These were included as standard because the 300C's automatic transmission didn't have a parking mode, thus relying on neutral and the emergency brake to stand still.

  1. This is why it is called a Parking Brake and not an emergency brake. Early cars and trucks with low compression engines would not stay put on a slope without the brakes applied. And if the service brakes failed, that was all the parking break did was set the service brakes. The only way to have an actual emergency brake would be to have it attached to the drive shaft or in the transmission. But back to the point, my 73 Mazda RX2 came with wheel chocks.

    1. even a 1973? WOW! I never thought even the 1950s cars would have them, but a 70s car? That's just nuts!
