I grew up understanding that a Co-Op was a farmers cooperative for better business advantage.... maybe they also loaned out, or rented out, tractors?

  1. From what I found, a group of agricultural co-ops got together to form a larger co-op to build these tractors. The NFMC was in a town a few miles from where I live.

"National Farm Machinery Co-Operative (NFMC) was a agricultural co-op based in Bellevue, Ohio, USA founded in 1942 by 13 regional co-ops. They developed and had tractors produced under the Co-op brand in Shelbyville, Indiana, USA in their own manufacturing facilities."

Some of the Co-op tractors were built by Cockshutt, in Canada. I only know of the Co-op tractors because a former co-worker collects Cockshutt tractors.

  2. Yes, thanks. I kind of thought something like this was the origin, but don't seem to have hit the right search criteria, and only read about the various models, left wondering about the rest.
