Sure, there must be a large number of people that don't know that the Maverick car existed.... after all, damn few still survive, but now that Ford lost it's mind, and makes an electric minisuv that they've decided should be named a Mustang, there just isn't any logic being used when naming vehicles at Ford anymore.
I'm surprised they haven't tried to pair up something named a Thunderbird to go with the new Lightning truck

Still available: Comet, Monarch, Fairmont
ReplyDeleteBut, it's not much of a truck.
ReplyDeleteIt's based on the Escape platform.
Ford Australia used "Maverick" for a rebadge of the Nissan Patrol in the '80s
ReplyDeleteMaverick seems more of a truck name than a eco box car.
ReplyDeleteI surprised they didn't buy the rights to the name Yugo.
ReplyDeleteFalcon would have been a better choice imo.....
ReplyDeleteTrue. The name only recently retired by Ford Australia and it was on their ute (car based pickup) until I think 2008.
Deleteincorrect, last used by Ford Australia in 2016 on sedans and utes
DeleteBased on, what might as well be, a car platform? Name that bitch the RANCHERO! -then sit back and wait for GM to jump too late onto yet another missed bandwagon with their brand renew El Camino! While Dodge, or whatever their name is this week, sits there shaking their heads the whole time.
ReplyDeleteSay what you will about what used to be Plymouth- if they didn't start a trend, then they didn't want any part of it.
The US Auto Companies Execs. were all educated by the same institutions that the Hollywood Execs were, when was the last time Hollywood came up with something "original"? they just use Old TV Show names or remake Older hit Movies or Comic Books. Ford has a lot of really good names that they can reuse in the future... Comet, Ranchero, Falcon, Torino
ReplyDeletethe Mustang lovers wont like to admit it , but almost every year the Maverick outsold the Mustang
ReplyDeleteI imagine the Maverick was more expensive, and the more affordable. My parents had one, back in 74 or 75
DeleteLOL seriously? in '68-70 Mustang Lovers/Buyers were sent off to war in Viet Nam, Maverick came out in 1970, with ONLY 2 versions of a straight 6...the only people buying Mavericks were Mom and Dad's hoping their Son would be coming home soon. The AMC Gremlin was also a 1970 release...
Delete"the only people" huh? Well, your theory doesn't hold water. My dad bought one, and he'd already went to, and returned from, Vietnam.
DeleteThe Gremlin, wasn't being discussed here, but ok, I've already posted that the Gremlin was revealed on April Fools Day. Yeah, I happen to have posted a lot of stuff, even about Gremlins. Then again, most everyone knows that trivia about the Gremlin release date.
And again, lets look at what you are replying to, a statement that SAID "almost every year" well, you really jumped the gun on that.
No one said the Maverick outsold the Mustang for the 6 years before the Maverick was released. Maybe, you could dial down the hostility? Just a bit?
As no one framed a statement about Mavericks in 1968-70... or ONLY in 1970, maybe you could ease up on the caffeine a bit, and just read someone else's comment without jumping all over the things they DIDN'T say?
I think the Maverick and the Mustang were competing for sales through to the end of them both, which I think was in 1978 or 9. I don't doubt the Maverick outsold the Mustang, as the Stang sucked in the 70s, and the Maverick Grabber wasn't as ugly
