the reason you can't hear Derrick, is that this is his first time talking on camera while working, and he doesn't realize that he can't be heard over the machine, unless he were to speak up a lot louder.
But the point of these videos, is to show not only what a "feller buncher" is and does for loggers, and the terrific up to modern day comforts it has, but what a damn beating the operator takes every minute, or every day, every week and month and year - on the job. OSHA? Never heard of her. Must be someone that works in an office and ain't been in the woods in her entire life.
A 26 minute video in the work day of an average Joe - clock punching worker - who's got a rough and tough job for life. Salute to Derrick, and loggers!
Another look at what some people do for a living, and why only a few young guys are doing it. I say guys as I am quite certain women don't do this job.
85 / 15 is a typical ratio of men and women in most jobs - or it's women and men. There aren't many occupational careers that are 50/50. There sure ain't going to be many old people doing this either, no one with bad backs, and it's not likely that someone is going to make a machine like this that can be operated from remote, some desk operator in a city somewhere.
