What's worse, that the New York Times labeled a 68 GTO "one of several so-called muscle cars" or that he had a photo of his 75 Corvette on his desk at the office as state attorney general?

Why the hell did he not have the GTO photographed and on his desk?

Regardless, this 2010 article https://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/29/nyregion/29cars.html is interesting in that it digs into the governors origin story as a gas station attendant in Queens as a teen, and his small collection of cars. Plus he also was a tow truck driver for AAA in Queens.

Towards the end of the article, they finally mention that his dad was governor of New York, and that the family lived in a mansion... so, he was a gas station employed teen, driving a tow truck, while living in the governors mansion? I don't think so. Or the NYT editor simply didn't give a shit about timeline and or clarifying at what point anything was relevant to the other things.

And it seems maybe that he kept the 75 Vette because he worked on it with his dad. But again, a 75? Bought by a governor? Of New York? AYFKM? Still makes no sense, or, shows no connection to having good taste (68 GTO - good taste, 75 Vette - poor taste)

Thanks Kim!

  1. Typical NYT puff piece. They're trying to make Cuomo sound like a man of the people, but at the same time cannot hide their disdain for such things. The Vette over the Goat is definitely worse, the NYT reporter is likely mortified that an official with a "D" next to their name would be interested in such proletarian things. Cuomo on the other hand would know 75 Corvettes are a dime a dozen. No reason to think he's lying, but I'm trying to imagine Mario Cuomo doing anything with a Corvette much less working on it with his son. His daughters probably don't like the Vette because of the color, but because its lame.

  2. The NY Times reporter probably doesn't own a car, or know what a muscle car is.

  3. Jesse, we're talking New York Times. The Old Gray Lady. When do they get the story right? Above comments are on the mark.
