Crystal Lachance is a single mom from Salem, Oregon, who is not only a dedicated mother, she's a dedicated employee working at KFC and for a full year she had to walk to and from work — an hour each way, on Saturday and Sunday shifts.
Her coworkers wanted to recognize Lachance's commitment. So, they nominated her for a "Kentucky Fried Wishes" award.
The special honor is given to KFC employees who go above and beyond at their job, and KFC will give them something special.
KFC Foundation's surprise for Lachance's did not end with the car. "Now, I have a car and the owner of KFC is going to be paying six months of insurance for me," she revealed in her Facebook post. "I feel so blessed today and I just love my job and my boss Miranda, she seriously is the best boss ever!"

If you walk, you might be able to score a ride. A bike would be a handicap for a free ride home.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, never ever walked anywhere. Road the old Schwinn cruiser. I met many people who thought bike riding was to complicated. Between keeping air in tires and being able to actually ride without getting hurt, much easier walking. Just stop by the bike rack at a school. Very few riders. Sad that such a simple solution is beyond the average person's ability.
ReplyDeleteI was given a bike on my 7th birthday, and 41 years later, still have one, you are so right, walking? Hell no. It's absurd to think that it's beyond the ability of the majority of people, but it's certainly the case that biking is beyond some peoples ability.
DeleteOf course, some people didn't grow up doing anything to work on achieving coordination, and they didn't get the wiring in their brain that most kids did who were out doing some games. Hell, I've seen people that can't run, throw a ball of any king size or weight, and some that can't figure out how to drive a car without bouncing off everything around them
If bike riding is too complicated for these folks, they definitely should not be driving a car!
DeleteComing from a country where everybody - even the blind - is able use a bicycle (the blind ones on tandems), I was wondering too. Either the road she walks is too dangerous for bicycling, or, as Jesse suggested, some people just cannot learn to bicycle. Never met one, though.
ReplyDeleteOr don't want to ride it. Some people are just "nope" for anything less then car. Don't even think they could use something else, I know such persons, rare thing but they exist. Maybe in US with very strong car culture it's more popular? Go car or nothing?
DeleteI met a guy working at a Les Schwab having to walk to work...I gave him an extra bike I had sitting around..He then quit and went somewhere else..Who know's..eh?
ReplyDeletelol.. who knows, true... but you did a good thing
