All you steam punk fans better sit down for this Victorian age beauty... 1897-1901 electric elevated trolley on 24 foot tall stilts, running during high or low tide, with a 3 mile long run (thanks Steve R!!!)

Am I right?

How cool is that? With sight seeing benches on the top deck for admiring the view, the worlds largest railroad tracks (18 feet wide) for slowly rolling along the English coast, and at 6 mph, it was certainly a nice slow breezy get away from the rat race.

imagine if the stilts were flat iron truss instead! Well, the first model made of it was that way!

That makes it really steam punk looking

The route was designed by electrical engineer Magnus Volk as an extension of his Volk's Electric Railway, which opened in 1883 and is the oldest electric railway still running today.

Its rise and all is documented by historian Martin Easdown in his new book, The Extraordinary Daddy Long Legs Railway of Brighton, which boasts an impressive collection of pictures, postcards and timetables.

  1. This thing is so steam punk I just can't get enough of it. It belongs in a Jewels Vern novel made into a movie. Someone needs to rebuild this sucker.
