it seems they routed the oil through the alternator mount, to send it to the cooler, so, replacing the 6 dollar seal requires dropping the subframe, and removing the front diff

My '98 BMW Z3 had a check engine light on after a few weeks in a friend's barn. Turned out to be a hose for the emissions system chewed by a mouse. The hose in question was above the gas tank. To replace it required removing the gas tank, which required removing the rear axle, which in turn required removing the back half of the exhaust system! North of $1,000 in labor to replace one stinking vacuum line!
