I wish there was a book of all the woodies that belonged to the many summer camps, fishing camps, hunting camps, etc etc I seriously geek out when finding one

July 1942, Camp Strongheart, Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin. It was a Boy Scout Camp featured in Life Magazine in 1956

The original Boy Scout Lodge is now a bar.  http://www.indian-shores.com/restaurant

Mr Nathan Herzog and Mrs. Harriet Freiler Herzog wed in Chicago in 1895 and lived in and around Chicago until 1924 when they came to Minocqua and started Camp Strongheart. They were lovers of nature, with an interest in education, camp life, youth and the northwoods and fulfilled their aims in the founding of Camp Strongheart in 1924.

The prestige and esteem built into camp management, along with the social and community contributions made by the Herzogs for the eight years they ran Camp Strongheart before Mr. Herzog’s death endeared them to many friends in the community and the camp.

Looks like the Boy Scouts sold the place in 1969, damn shame that is, and now it's an RV resort.

In 1969, Ronald P Fisk purchased Strongheart Boys Camp on Lake Tomahawk and redeveloped this acquisition into Indian Shores Recreational Vehicle and Camping Park with 200 sites.

7750 Camp Strongheart Rd, Woodruff, WI 54568

And for all the good times and cool stuff that happened at that Boy Scout camp, there isn't a damn thing on the internet about it, no photos, etc. What a shame.

There was a book made of the THOUSANDS of camps in the USA " A Handbook of Summer Camps: An Annual Survey, Volume 12"

  1. As an employee of the resort, there are many, many pictures that hang on the wall featuring teenage boys and some activities they participated in. The lodge still stands and has a very rustic feeling.
