someone with a sense of history and humor remembers Uniroyals, and Tigerpaws. Cool way to keep the memory of those alive!

    1. Not exactly, they sold out to Michelin 28 years ago. So... the name is still used, but the company using it is Michelin. I'm a fan of theirs too, but I'm coming from the viewpoint of a purist... and once a company sells out, and becomes a part of the corporate conglomerate? Do they matter? If tire company A buys tire company B, are Bs tires any better, any different from As? If they are, what's the point of buying B and allowing it to make a better tire than A who was more successful and wealthy and bought it? If the B tire is better, then A either bought it to make their A tire better buy purchasing the rights, patents, and secret formulas, or, B was nothing much, but competition, and by buying them, they were eliminated as competition, and now A has the muscle to remove the thorn in it's side by sidelining B and having it produce the substandard economy brand.

  2. yeah.. I see your point, but who hasn't sold out in the tire world (let alone pretty much the whole automotive world)?
I don't follow who owns who in the tire world as much as I do in the car manufacturer world, but as far as I know there are only a few tire companies left.
    For example:
    Goodyear merged with Dunlop.
Michelin owns BF Goodrich besides UniRoyal (although in Europe Uniroyal is actually owned by Continental.
    Firestone is owned by Bridgestone.
General Tire is owned by Continental too.
And Cooper is now owned by Avon.

So, I think they've all sold out. There are no American tire companies anymore.
