So there is progress: Most of my motorcycles do around 50 mpg, but some of the new cars around here easily beat that at 75 mpg. Compact 1,600 lbs cars, of course, but in real world conditions.
Citroên C3 (diesel) which I borrow occasionally, and according to motor magazine reviews a few of the small Japanese and Korean ones. They all have displays announcing the fuel consumption, which helps drivers develop a frugal driving style.
I wanted one of these real bad when they came out....just graduating from a 2 year college so couldn't afford it.
