Jesse, I emailed the photo to George "Bushmaster" Schrieber and asked him for some background on the mask. Here's his reply: ================= "DOUG", MY DEIST MASK!!! WHEN I WENT TO VON DUTCH"S HOUSE TO PICK UP MY HELMET, I HAD THE "DUTCHMAN" PAINT THE MONSTER FACE ON THE MASK!!! I WORE IT ONCE AT THE BEACH AND IT DIDN'T WORK AS THE CANOPY ON THE " FANG" HAD NO BREEZE THROUGH IT ON THE LINE AND I COULDN'T BREATHE---GOT ONE OF THE NEW "SIMPSONS" MASKS WITH FILTERS AS THE CANOPY WAS " AIR--NEGATIVE" !!! THANX AND THE BUSHMASTER STILL LUVS YA " !!!
Double wow, now we know that this is a Von Dutch piece of art... and man o man, there simply aren't any previously undiscovered pieces of Von Dutch art, well, until this image was posted, and YOU had the Bushmaster on the line... if not for those incredibly unbelievable coincidences, no one would have ever learned that this was (as time has erased all info) a Von Dutch! OMG... that's serious amazing!
damn. I'm wrecked for the rest of the day, you blew my mind, and it's going to take a damn dustbuster to collect the pieces! You might not know I'm a Von Dutch and Roth fan, and have tried to post all the Von Dutch art I can, all the pinstriped cars, etc etc... restored motorcycles, even bought the books. And on top of that, I'm still amazed at the glow in the dark Bushmaster dragster https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2009/07/bushmaster-of-george-schreiber-painted.html
if you can/will, could you send along my appreciation to George, and let him know I'm blown away at his 1) Von Dutch Deist fire mask, 2) glow in the dark slingshot 3) gracious help identifying this! (I'm still blown away... wow)
Ed never drove the Yellow Fang. George Scheiber drove it and, no, that wasn't his face mask.
ReplyDeleteI know Ed didn't drive it, as the title clearly asked, if Ed made it for the driver.
DeleteI believe you are correct Jesse ;-) http://edrothrules.tumblr.com/post/32399393487/roths-yellow-fang-in-1965-roth-teamed-up-with
ReplyDeleteWhoa~! thanks!
DeleteEd didn't make the mask. George only wore it once.
