A van that drove off while still pumping gas at a Missouri station sprayed gas into the engine of a $400,000 Lamborghini, causing it to catch fire.

A high-end sports car caught fire and burned down to its metal frame after a minivan was seen on video driving off with a fuel pump at a St. Louis area gas station.

Parker Gelber, a luxury vehicle dealer, witnessed the car fire, which happened Saturday night at a Mobil station in Kirkwood, Missouri, according to KTVI. He shared his story in a Facebook post on Sunday.

Gelber and his friend were out driving their Lamborghinis and stopped at the gas station to fill up on fuel.

Gelber, driving a red Lamborghini Huracán Performante, pulled up next to a pump while his friend, in a blue Lamborghini of the same model, was behind Gelber at another pump.

Both the drivers went inside to pay for gas and water, he wrote.

"As soon as we walked in, we saw a massive fireball out the window," Gelber said on Facebook. "We all ran out of the gas station to the other side of the road. At this point, we had no idea what happened or whose cars were on fire. We dialed 911 and when the fire was out you could see that his car was completely burned down, our red one just covered in ash."

While talking to police and firefighters a man ran up and said he saw what happened. He was recording the cars to show his friends and caught a guy driving off with a gas pump still in his car. The pump sprayed fuel directly into the blue Huracan’s engine bay and it instantly ignited.

Police found the guy that did it and everything will be taken care of. Just thankful we all got away safe and it didn’t escalate into a bigger fire. No one was in the cars at the time.

  1. I saw this on the news yesterday and they said the mini van driver was not going to be prosecuted. He should be, at least for being stupid.
