I was watching some show recently and a dude had this exact dilemma. He scored one of these and figured if he could prove it was a Roth kit trike it would be worth so much more. So he called Darryl Roth and he came out to authenticate it and supply a Roth certificate.
He looked at the underside and although it had repairs and some alterations, he deemed it to be the real thing. Darryl claimed Ed was a real advocate for child labour and had his kids work the moulds, which is why they can recognise the real thing. And something about the thickness in certain areas and some marks of some kind made the difference.
Recently purchased a couple of trikes. Thrilled to find out more about them. Had no idea really about how special they might be. Need a crash course on all of it. Good chance they are both originals. Any direction and advise would be much appreciated.
My Roth trike has business cards glassed into the underside of the body in various places that bear the address of Roth's shop in Maywood California. Elvis had two "Stires" trikes. He did not own a Roth trike.
Wow! THanks for getting in contact! I went to your page, saved some photos, and will be posting a few and sharing with the other readers! You're terrific!
I have attracted my brother had when he passed I'm trying to find out if this is an original Ed Roth or a knockoff. I know that look for the business cards in the class but someone has pain in the bottom side with undercoating and the top side is all the airbrush by Von Otto from Waco who is no longer with us this can't be replaced. Is there any other way or markings to identify if it's an Ed Roth original.? Thanks in advance
you inherited one from your brother? Nice! And you already know the answer.... sand off the undercoating. You already know you have to, so quit screwing around, and do it. Undercoating can easily be replaced, and without seeing those Roth business cards, when you decide to sell it or insure it, you're simply not going to be able to prove what it's worth. Good luck, get sanding.
I don't remember that at all.
