1972 Jeep Commando SC-2, it finally hit me why I don't remember ever seeing one before, the grill doesn't have the Jeep trademark vertical slots

The Jeepster Commando was first produced by Kaiser Jeep in 1966 to compete with the International Scout, Toyota Land Cruiser and Ford Bronco.

The Kaiser line remained in production until about 1969, when American Motors Corporation (AMC) bought Kaiser in 1970.

In 1972 Kaiser’s new parent company, American Motors, lengthened the wheelbase to 104 inches and renamed the revised Jeep the Commando C104.

The front end was also altered to accept AMC engines and the Commando received a full width grille that distinguished it from earlier Jeeps.

After 1971 the Jeepster “namesake” was removed and replaced with the simpler title of “Jeep Commando.” By 1972, it was clear that the Commando had become something quite different from its predecessor.

For example, the grille was redesigned into something less inspired by Kaiser and more influenced by conventional full-width grilles that were popular at the time.

20,000 Commando C104s were built before it was replaced by the full-size Cherokee in 1974.
