Hollywood bodyshop owner Chuck Porter built this modified Mercedes 300SL Gullwing from a wreck in 1955. He paid $500 for it at a junkyard. A variety of engines powered this special including a Hilborn injected Corvette mill. http://www.mercedesheritage.com/2010/gullwings-and-roadsters-on-the-track-in-the-50s-and-60s/
above from http://www.hemmings.com/users/138115/story/119.html where the story is told by Chuck Porter's son "This car went through a lot of engines and different drivers, and won a lot of races. My father raced it from 1955 to 1959, then sold it. It has been featured in many magazine and book articles, and was the featured car that Cornell Wilde drove in the 1950's movie "Devil's Hairpin". It was also in the movie "On the Beach".
if a yellow streamlined race car, the name Chuck Porter, and a yellow truck strikes a note, it's likely due to the couple of photos I've posted here http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2013/02/a-quick-view-of-some-of-interesting.html
